Master pasta makers have always drawn inspiration from the world around them when “christening” the various pasta shapes, as in the case of Penne, which take their name from an object of everyday use, “penna” (= quill). They are one of the most classic and “eaten” pasta shapes in Italian cooking. So what’s the reason for so much success? It’s quite simple: they’re good with any sauce and are loved by everyone, old and young alike. Delicious with tomato sauces, they are also in perfect harmony with vegetable or cheese recipes, as well as being excellent with meat ragu.
A cooking tip: stir the pasta delicately, and only after a few minutes of cooking, to avoid it breaking.
