...The strange, blooming vegetation in the photograph is the visible (and living!) part of the natural wastewater treatment system of Fattoria La Vialla. All the wastewater that comes from domestic use, the dairy and the farm’s kitchens and workshops flows together here. The natural purification process is activated by micro-organisms, wild flora and specific plants, such as common reeds (Phragmites australis), bulrushes (Typha latifolia) and rushes (Juncus).
